Festival Program Schedule
     
Held in the heart of the entertainment capital of the world, the Burbank International Children’s Film Festival will offer independent filmmakers an unprecedented opportunity to showcase their talent and network with industry
leaders. The festival will afford participants the opportunity to attend first-rate panel discussions, meet film distributors, attend dynamic special events, and be entertained by some of the world’s finest children’s films.

Friday, October 13–Thursday, October 19

BICFF Silent Auction
Bid on fabulous entertainment memorabilia, family packages and more during the ongoing silent auction. Auction items will be on display and available for bids at BICFF Headquarters located on the Second Level. Free and open to the public

Internet Digital Film Streaming
Access BICFF’s streaming films via the Internet. Participate in the festival from your desktop—view the finalists in the For Children By Children and Student Film Categories.

Scary Makeup by Make-Up Designory: The make-up artists of Make-Up Designory will demonstrate special effects make-up, prosthetics and animatronic creatures.

Opening Night Celebration
The Opening Night festivities will be a crowd pleaser for the whole family to enjoy! Join us for the opening ceremony, celebrity appearances, Italian delights by Mi Piace restaurant, and live music under the stars. Meet
Berkeley Breathed, Pulitzer Prize winning Cartoonist/Writer/Producer of Bloom County and Outland as he makes a personal appearance on behalf of his book and upcoming film debut, Edwurd Fudwupper Fibbed Big. Mr. Breathed will also be available for a booksigning during the reception.

Burbank Village Child’s Playground
In celebration of the festival, the Burbank Village will host a Child’s Playground down San Fernando boulevard. Kids and their families can enjoy blocks of interactive games, live music, special appearances and performances.

Screenwriters Panel
Meet a talented panel of writers as they discuss the issues of content for children’s entertainment. Panelists will include writers of films submitted to the festival, Richard Stanley (Legends of Pirates Point) and Gary Rogers (The First of May) as well as industry greats such as Bob Tzudiker and Noni White (102 Dalmations, Anastasia, Tarzan), and Karey Kirkpatrick (Chicken Run, James and the Giant Peach).

Producers Panel
This panel discussion will address the challenges producers face in the children’s entertainment market, how to market and distribute films for the children’s genre, and more.

Producers Master Class Preview, Book-signing and Cocktail Reception
Meet John Lee of the Entertainment Business Group, during this networking
reception. He will preview the principles of film financing that will be
presented during his day-long Producer’s Master Class on Film Financing-How
to Scale the Wall on Monday, October 16. Mr. Lee will be signing copies
of his acclaimed book, The Producer’s Business Handbook. following
the presentation.

Meet Hollywood’s up and coming stars and learn about the business from both the actor and parents point of view. The days activities will continue with a panel of Casting Directors, Talent Managers and Publicists each sharing the role they play in an actors career. Plus, join the Radio Disney street team as they keep the energy pumping with music, games and lots of giveaways!

Director’s Panel
Join us as this exciting panel of distinguished Director’s discuss the issues involved with directing children’s films. The participants will speak about their success in directing children’s entertainment.

The Evolution of Animation from the Baby Boomers to Gen X
Jerry Beck, Animation Historian, will be the keynote speaker prior to the evening screening. He will take you on a journey of the evolution of animation.

The Producers Master Class - Film Financing
John Lee of the Entertainment Business Group will conduct a Film Financing Master Class. Learn how to plan, fund and operate multiple picture development and secure financial success before production. He will also discuss how to secure bank financing, distribute your pictures with the majors, manage marketing and commence direct ancillary rights sales.

Animation Studio Tour - Nickelodeon
You will have the opportunity to tour Nickelodeon Animation Studio and see first hand the current animated productions of Nickelodeon including: Hey Arnold!, CatDog, Dora The Explorer, SpongeBob SquarePants, Fairly OddParents, Invader: ZIM, Oswald The Octopus, The Angry Beavers & Simply Sisters. Meet the animators and watch the animation process in action. Plus, meet some of the cartoon creators and be one of the first to sneak a peak at new cartoons that have not been on air yet!

Respecting Children Through Writing
Our keynote speaker for the evening will be Robin Swicord, writer of Little Women and co-writer of Matilda. She will discuss creating developmentally appropriate content for children and the current rating system.

Writers Workshop for Kids
Join Shari Goodhartz, writer of Young Hercules, Dragonheart A New Beginning, Raw Toonage, Bonkers and more, as she conducts this workshop on creative writing and storytelling exploring heroes, heroines, and villains.

Producer’s Studio Tour
Visit two of Burbank’s studios DIC and Cartoon Network as they show you their state of the art facilities. Plus, DIC will share with the tour guests a “mock pitch presentation” to illustrate the development process for a project.

Young Filmmakers Mentor Workshop
This is the perfect workshop for kids who want to know how to make a movie! Craig Paulsen, a Disney film editor, will present with his 9 year old son, Pace this “how to” workshop. Learn the process of making a movie - step-by-step from script to editing and everything in between!

The Changing World of Animation
Dan Hoffstead and a distinguished panel of animators will discuss the changes in the art of animation from traditional hand-drawn animation to the computer generated images.

Voice Over Workshop
Voicemeister, Bill Farmer, who is the voice of Disney's Goofy will demonstrate his talent and teach kids the “how to” of voice overs. Mr. Farmer has voiced other characters in movies such as, A Bug's Life, Toy Story, Hercules and Who Framed Roger Rabbit, so don’t miss the fun.

Media and the Family - Parents Workshop
David Walsh, Ph.D. and president and founder of the National Institute on Media and the Family will lead a discussion on the impact of media on children and families. This workshop has been designed to provide practical suggestions for parents and educators on ways to take advantage of media’s benefits while avoiding the harm.

The Power of Media on Children
Dr. Walsh will combine the latest discoveries in the field of brain research with empirical data to show how and why mass media is as powerful as it is in shaping attitudes, values, and behavior in children. He will focus on the impact media has on the “seven critical traits for school success.” Psychologist, educator, author, speaker and parent of three, Dr. Walsh has emerged as one of the leading authorities in America on the impact of media on children and families.

BICFF Awards Gala and Ceremony
A special night is planned to close the week of festivities and honor our Filmmakers. We invite you to join us we recognize our festival winners as well as present our festival Lifetime Achievement awards to Stan Lee, Co-Creator of X-Men and Spiderman and Jean MacCurdy, President of Warner Bros. Animation.
